Empire 5: Austria

Overview

The Realm With Two Heads

Austria is officially described as a realm with two heads: it opens slowly, then presses from both wings at once. Its signature power, Coalition, binds your army into one body — and the guns speak every turn. Of the five empires it is the slowest starter and the most inevitable closer: the early game is setup, the late game is a coordinated two-front pressure that a scattered board cannot answer.

How the Austrian Playstyle Feels

Austrian matches have a rhythm you can set a clock by. The opening turns feel passive — building, arranging, surviving — and then both wings arrive together. Coalition turning your army into a single body suggests synergies that reward a full board: buffs, guns and pressure that all scale with what you assembled. Against Austria the clock is the threat; against Austria as the player, the clock is your friend.

Seal Pairing and Deck Notes

The signature Austrian seal is the Double Seal — two heads, two imprints. An empire that wins the late game wants seals that survive to see it: defenses, ramp, or effects that strengthen your coalition as it forms. Mulligan for a survivable opening rather than a fast one; an Austrian deck that gets dragged into a sprint usually loses to the empires built to sprint.

  • The Double Seal is the thematic pick; late-game seals suit the two-wing plan.
  • Coalition rewards a full board — sequence your deploys before you bind.
  • Expect a slow opening; mulligan for survival, not speed.
